Our Origin The Corpus Christi Chapter of the Progressive Populist Caucus was founded following the 2004 November elections to promote the traditional progressive values of the Democratic Party. The general observation among many Democrats was that the local, state and national party had drifted to the middle and compromised its values in an attempt to respond to what it perceived as dissatisfaction with the progressive message. We contend that this is not the case. We contend that Republicans have been eroding the traditional Democratic Base because the Democratic Party has deserted its main constituencies. We believe that the traditional progressive role is to represent small business, working people, and the poor against the corporate dominance of government for its own financial gain. Consequently the Progressive Populist Caucus seeks to champion within the Democratic Party, the cause of the common people who have made this nation great and continue to be the source of its economic, cultural and societal values. Our Mission To participate in the Democratic Party at all levels from the Precinct to the National Democratic Party to secure platform planks and support candidates that reflect traditional Progressive Values. To elect Progressives to elected office at all levels of government to insure the common welfare of all people is maintained. To fight to secure the rights of all citizens against corporate attempts to dominate government. To hold fast to the values and principles of our forefathers who have demonstrated the importance of rule by the people, elucidated at length by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. |
